9 Benefits of Mobilizing Shift Management

A traditional way of filling an open shift assignment is to have a Manager or a Staffing Coordinator at a Scheduling office manually call every person on their staffing list to find a replacement staff member.  This process usually takes up to 45 minutes to fill an open shift and is open to abuse and error.  In many cases, if this open assignment cannot be filled through internal personnel agencies are contacted to fill the assignment, or staff members who are already onsite stay for a longer period of time and incur overtime, or worse the organization runs with less staff impacting service levels. By mobilizing the shift management process organizations can see benefits:

  1. Open shifts filled in minutes instead of hours using 2-way multi-channel communication with employees
  2. Provide equal opportunities across the staff
  3. Improve employee interaction  by using SMS, Email & IVR to contact employees
    • Employees are contacted in their preferred  method of communications and in turn increases the chance of short notice shifts being filled
  4. Reduce time spent scheduling allowing organizations to reduce the number of scheduling personnel needed or allowing managers to spend less time worrying about the schedule and more time managing their team
  5. Reduce payroll related expense through human error
  6. Decreased the need to overstaff ahead of time to account for unplanned absenteeism
  7. Reduce overtime pay due to unplanned absenteeism
  8. Reduce the need for supplemental staffing
  9. Eliminate grievances by complying with the most stringent scheduling policies, including complex overtime equalization rules
